Donate the cost of a drink to help raise awareness of Adrenocortical Carcinoma (ACC)

In honor of Mike Wilson who passed away on the 20th October 2022, the non-profit One in a Million is raising awareness of Adrenocortical Carcinoma.

Adrenocortical Carcinoma (ACC) is a rare aggressive cancer that only affects about One in a Million people. There is a need to raise awareness of ACC as most people have never heard of ACC and most physicians will never see a case of ACC and if they do it will likely only be one or two cases in their career. This makes early diagnosis of ACC very difficult, 21-35% of people are diagnosed with ACC Stage IV.

One in a Million non-profit foundation is raising awareness of ACC by asking people to donate the cost of a coffee, wine, beer, or cocktail to One in a Million. One in a Million | One in a Million (Powered by Donorbox) The next time you are out for drinks with friends or family please let them know about Adrenocortical Carcinoma (ACC). Below is some information you can share with them. You can also find further information on ACC at Adrenocortical Carcinoma (ACC) (mikeoneinamillion.com)

Information on ACC to share with family and friends next time you are out for a drink.

“Did you know that the adrenal glands produce hormones such as cortisol, which is known as the stress hormone. When we drink coffee or alcohol our adrenal glands also release cortisol. Caner of the adrenal glands is rare. One type of adrenal cancer – Adrenocortical Carcinoma (ACC) is a rare aggressive cancer that only affects about One in a Million people. This type of cancer can produce hormones such as cortisol or may not produce any hormones. Often people will have no symptoms of ACC or general non-specific symptoms. This makes early diagnosis very difficult, therefore there is a need to raise awareness of ACC. When there are symptoms present these can include:

·         Abdominal pain;

·         High blood pressure;

·         High blood sugar;

·         Weakness or fatigue;

·         Unexplained weight gain – especially in the face and abdomen; and/or

·         Symptoms related to under or overproduction of sex-related hormones.

The non-profit foundation One in a Million has been established in honor of Mike Wilson’s legacy. Mike was diagnosed with Stage IV ACC in September 2022 and passed away on the 20th of October 2022. Mike was only 56 years old when he died and before his diagnosis the only symptoms he had was high blood pressure and fatigue.

I will be donating the cost of this drink to the non-profit One in a Million and discussing ACC with family and friends. The funds raised will go towards ACC awareness and research. I can provide you the details to donate the cost of your drink to One in a Million.”
